Marvelous Moo Masterpieces: A Workshop Exploring Cows Through Collage Art and Science

In-person or virtual (30-60 minutes)

Introducing the ultimate ag literacy activity, a fun STEAM workshop that empowers users to create collage art while learning interesting trivia about cattle. Participants will construct a unique piece of art suitable for framing.

Jackie Nix isn’t just an artist and children’s author but also an animal scientist with a passion for cows who has spent 20+ years in animal agriculture. Jackie seamlessly combines art with science to make for a memorable and fun experience. Her insights add unique depth to the workshop, creating a rich learning experience.

What to expect

1.      Participants will cut scrap paper, wrapping paper, cloth or even natural materials like petals and leaves into geometric shapes. Depending on the age and ability of participants, additional volunteers and helpers may be needed for this step.

2.      Looking at reference photos that will be provided, Jackie will show how to break a cow portrait down into basic shapes.

3.      Jackie gives a brief overview of composition and color theory and shows examples.

4.      Participants use a pencil or marker to draw their cow on their canvas.

5.      They then glue the cut geometric shapes to the canvas, making their cow and background.

6.      Throughout the activity, Jackie will be interjecting fun and interesting trivia about cattle and asking questions.

In-person workshops over 50 miles from Prattville, AL will also include mileage/airfare and accommodations (if applicable).

Your organization may purchase and provide all materials used or I can charge for art materials on a per head basis for in-person events.

These details will be negotiated and spelled out in the event contract. All expenses will be approved and listed in the contract.
